Which team will score the first points of Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday - NFL Super Bowl Special
The Super Bowl XLVI is all set to kickoff in Indianapolis on Sunday as the New England Patriots take on this year’s Wildcard team New York Giants for the coveted honour of lifting the Lombardi Trophy.
With a number of stories doing the rounds on the web, print media and television about what the players are saying, what the coaches are planning we at bettor.com want to move above the clutter and remove all the ifs and buts to get down to the cold hard
facts.
Both teams are the best at what they do. New England’s offence has been an unstoppable juggernaut right from the first day of the season. The Giants had a rough start but made it to the playoffs and on recent performances look like a real Super Bowl Champion.
So who will bring the ball first to their opponent’s end-zone?
It all depends on who will gain first possession of the ball but it also depends on which team’s offence revs up faster in a game.
Over the past six games the New York Giants have taken the lead twice with both games ending in a Giants victory while they lost just once in the other four games they failed to take the lead.
The Giants scored a touchdown against the New York Jets while scoring a field goal in the playoff divisional round against the Green Bay Packers to take the lead.
If we look at where New England Patriots stands in this regard they have scored first three times to take the lead over the past six games however, most importantly have won all of the games even when they didn’t score the first points.
So it is here that the Patriots have the advantage and they have shown whether they take the lead or not, New England always emerges on top in the end.
On defence too New England has the advantage as they have giving away an average of just 21.4 points in the regular season while the Giants are 25th in total defence rankings giving opponents an average of 25 points per game.
The Patriots better defence will most likely cause turnovers in the Giants’ offence, and would have a better chance of stopping the Giants if they take first possession.
However, the stats and figures are all in the past. The Super Bowl is one game and any team which is better on that night will take victory.
