It's clear that most of America consider only two teams: USF or WVU. Take your pick guys.

  1. West Virginia looks very powerful this year.

  2. West Virginia lost most of their coaching staff, including Rich Rodriguez and Mike Barwis, who both got them into shape, so, West Virginia will NOT finish first this year.

Pitt, on the other hand maintains most of their team and coaching staff.

    1. Pittsburgh

    2. South Florida

    3. West Virginia

  3. The obvious choice here is West Virginia. But obvious doesn't always mean right. I'll give you 4 teams that all have a (somewhat) legitimate chance to win the Big East.

    1. West Virginia - Pat White will be the most dynamic player in the Big East, hands down. He should get an invitation to New York at the end of the year also. However, the 1-2 backfield tandem that got him so far in Steven Slaton and Owen Schmitt have both left for greener NFL pastures, and while Noel Devine is pretty spectacular, I'm not sold on him being Slaton's replacement. And of course there's the elephant in the corner: Rich Rod, love him or hate him, he made that team work. Can Bill Stewart pull it off? Also, WVU has a history of let downs in big games.

    2. South Florida - Talk about program building. This team didn't exist ten years ago, and last season they went as high as number 2. QB Matt Grothe returns, and will almost certainly be the second best QB in the Big East behind White. On the defensive side, DE George Selvie is still there, being the best pure pass rusher in the Big East. Only problem is, outside of Selvie, the defense took a big hit, and the offense is still a little suspect.

    3. Pittsburgh - Led by an absolutely dynamic running back in LeSean McCoy, Pitt will be the Big East's turn around story. The defense, which finished number 7 last year, returns almost everyone, including All-American Scott McKilliop at middle linebacker. Also, the wide receiver tandem of Derek Kinder and Oderrick Turner is lethal. The only problem for Pitt is who will get them the ball. Bill Stull won the race this year, but with only one start under his belt, is he the answer for Pitt?

    4. Cincinnati - Although Ben Mauk didn't get his 6th year of eligibility, the Bearcats still look to have a good leader in Dustin Grutza. The offensive line is a beast, and they have one of the best passing defenses in the country. Running back might be an issue however as the only boys for the job this year are both untested Sophomores. Also, Grutza has to be a real gamer this year, or this might be a really high ranking for Cincy.

  4. Like it or not West Virginia is far too powerfull in the big east.

Pitt had a good returning wide reciever to help intheir passing game, only to lose thier other star reciever.

This pitt team also has o-line issues, so although they have big time runningback, this team will be aa run first ball club. I see WVU getting its revenge on pitt this year, thier star, the defensive cordinater is gone.

S.florida does stand to be wv biggest challenge, unfortunatley s.florida has inconsistancy issue's and is the only team in the big east yet to played against pat white all four qtrs.

louisville has tremendous offense, young recievers and a running game by comittee only, also its defense is questionable.

Cicinnati is a team that can throw the ball, the new qb is a question mark, and the nd transfer may end up being the starter as the season progresses, this team like louisville lacks a ground game, running back by commitee as well.

Rutgers is the big s**y team this year, lost a huge offensive player in rice, but because of rice precence everyone seem to forget that rutgers have play makers at wr. question mark can they step it up to help out in the running game.

    So my picks are

    West Virginia 7-0

    S.Florida        6-1

    Pittsburgh      5-2

    UConn           4-3

    Rutgers          3-4

    Cincinnati       2-5

    Syracuse        0-7

As far as the coaching staff at West Virginia, we still retained Jeff Casteel ranked 5th best defensive cordinater and the cordinater of the year last year.

Bill Stewart has some professional football background he was an offensive cordinater for two Canadian football teams.  This coaching staff put together is very impressive. Some from the years that Don Nehlen was coaching, and Nehlen's staff was rated as one of the best when it came to player development. This is why Stewart, also part of the old Nehlen staff recalled Holiday as well as one left over from Nehlen that was on RRODs staff. So this staff is solid, so dont expect wv not to be playing well this year, if this was so, they wouldnt see, such a high ranking along with majority of the sport writers seeing the big east belonging to wv. They know all to well about this coaching staff

and do not see wvu dropping off this year.

  5. 1 WVU

    2 Pitt

    3 USF

Pat white is so awesome on both air and ground he could lead that team to a national championship.

Pitt's Lesean McCoy is a great running back.

USF's matt grothe is good but they did lose to rutgers and cincinati.

  6. Anyone picking pitt need to stop drinking the kool aid. The panthers will go 6-6 this year. Just because they upset WVU dosen't mean they are contenders. USF are the only threat to WVU.

But in the end, WVU is just too strong. The offensive line has been picked by a variety of sources to be the best line in the country. The defensive line is great, as are the linebackers. And despite the loss of Rodriguez, the new coaching staff is better than the previous one. And with White and Devine returning, WVU has the best chance of winning the Big East.

USF will have a great season as well. I wouldn't be too surprised to see WVU  and USF be a battle of unbeatens.

Here will be the Big East rankings:

    1.WVU

    2.USF

    3.Conn

    4.Rut

    5.Cinn

    6.Pitt

    7.Lou

    8.Syr

  7. It's going to be close between WVU & Pitt. I really don't think Cinci even has a realistic shot at running the Big East this year, and USF is basically just "alright" as they don't seem to be able to sustain their aggresiveness & momentum for the whole season, so I'm going to take LeSean McCoy and the #7 defense of Pitt over both USF & Cinci...

If I was a betting man (which, actually, I am...) I'd call the Big East for WVU this year. However, like I said above, Pitt could most definitely take it, too.

  8. Neither!

    Pitt

Im not a pitt fan but a die hard college football fan!

  9. WVU still has the most talent in the Big East, by a long shot, followed by Louisville, whose disaster of a season last year was a result of a coaching shift.  USF presumably will have the best balance between coaching and talent, but if the staffs of UL and WVU have found their feet, USF's true talent level will start to show and last year will look more like a fluke than anything else.  Pitt is a conteder and Wanstaadt is on the hot seat, so they'll at the very least spring a big upset or two.

    WVU-Big East champs

    Pitt

    Louisville

    USF

    Cincy

    UConn

    Rutgers

    Syracuse

  11. hi my pic is wvu,,,no one will come close to them
