Which tee box????

which tee box does pga play?? I just upgraded from white tee to blue tee. Is there such thing as a "black tee"?

The black tees are for single digit handicaps looking for a real challenge. At some courses Even Tiger would moan. But the Blacks are the furthest back. Some say if there are no blacks, play from the tips of the tee box,.

most courses that host PGA events have tees specifically for the tournaments.  most times they will be much further back and with harder angles and the tees will never be all the way back where the pros play from.  I was recently at the TPC of Loiusiana and they had 4 sets with the tournament tees at around 7400 yards and the normal tips around 6900 to give you an idea of how far back they play

The PGA tournam ents are played on the course as it was set up by the person designated to set up the course, who is a member of the PGA staff. The rep meets with the Course superintendent prior to the tournament, and together they lay out the pin positions for the entire competition. The only change will be the result of inclement weather in which case the alternate position is noted.They also designate which tee box or section of tee box will be used each day.

To ANSWER your question yes! There is such a thing as a black tee. It is beyond blue. Black and beyond are what is known as Champion tees and is used for competitive golf or by low to no handicap players. To ANSWER your other question, the PGA tour plays from tees designed to give the course of play for competition the maximum difficulty(slope) without raising the score of par(course rating) in some cases this is your standard black or blue tee, or in others(as someone else put) the USGA has the course cut a completely different tee all together. Take Merion Country Club in Ardmore, PA. They are hosting the 2013 US Mens Open. They have been "guided" by the USGA and PGA of America to change certain holes and how they are played to fit Major Championship standards. So there you have it, the pros play from tees that if we played from them it would make us wonder why we even came out to play today.

Oh yes, black tees exist beyond the blues.  Usually they are referred to as 'the tips'...

Colours of tee boxes have minimal meaning; I've seen every colour in the rainbow...black, gold, green, blue, white, red, orange...you name it.

The PGA Tour will, in most cases, play a course from the back tees, but in some cases (weather, other factors) move the teeing area up or back from day to day.
