  1. Haha...Bill...I'm at the South Pole - that actually happens...we also have a race around the world every year, the winner gets to go to McMurdo to run in the marathon...some prize eh...

Anyhow, here at the South Pole we use New Zealand time...as does McMurdo Station.  This is because the flights that come to McMurdo come from New Zealand...

It gets really confusing though - and time is really pretty irrelevant when the sun is either up all the time or down all the time.  Some people work on UTC time...others work on Denver time (our company's hq is in Denver)...but the short answer is NZ time for at least those two research stations and many U.S. field camps.

  2. Antarctica Standard Time is the same as Greenwich Mean Time.  However, most bases and stations keep the same time as their home territory or the supply line that supports them.

  3. All of them apply they are just slivers of timezones. (takes less time to travel from one to another.)

  4. I just got this mental image of a guy running in a circle where the zones meet, saying, "Now it's 1:00pm.  Now it's two.  Now it's three.  Now four!"   lol

Wonder how long one could play that game before it started to get old...... or cold, for that matter.

  5. I would have expected most to use GMT or link to the country or agency sponsoring them so they don't wake their bosses when calling in.  Half right.

  6. It matches the same time zone that Argentina's is.

But like the answer said....time doesn't really matter. Wake up, work, eat, sleep.
