I am joining the marines and its time to pick an MOS... I love working on cars and joining the motor transport as a mechanic sounds great.. See the action, serve my country and learn even more about trucks tanks whatever slot thats i fall into...

But being a Aviation Mechanic is more promising.. It has alot of great benefits during and after service..

  1. Well you should not really be worried about what is promising outside of the corps. Because when you are in there it is all about the marines. You wont give a c**p about anything else. Do what you really want to do. Who is to say that you wont like motor T enough where you stay in for 20 ears then retire. My advice is do what you really want to do so that you can enjoy the corps to the fullest

  2. Mechanic is usually good. The only thing is the snipers will target you during combat.

  3. I went for aviation mechanic and loved it but i hope you like long hours. It is more promising for a career and work afterwards it took me 2 weeks to get my Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic rating from the FAA. And the nice thing is if you're good at what you do you will rise to the top and be given more responsibility as they see fit. I worked on CH-53E for five years. Check out some pics of it online it's pretty cool. If you have any more questions just send me an e-mail and i'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

  4. Do what you want to it is not always about the money.  If you join Motor T make sure the recruiter puts you down as a mechanic and not a DRIVER.

You will have more chance of closer combat as a Motor T mechanic and serving with Ground Combat Arms.

    Good Luck and Enjoy.

  5. If you actually have a choice, go airwing. The Corps vehicles are mostly old stuff that will not help you in civilian life. I know it has been many years since I was in but, we had the junk no one else wanted. I was in communications and we had equipment that was 30 years old.

  6. The USMC does not stick you where they need extra bodies. There are no extra bodies in the Marines and there are only Marines in the Corps and not bodies.

If you choose the Motor T MOS you will get it because you will not be able to qualify for the other slots under that field.

The USMC should come first. If you choose a MOS that will "aid" you in the future as you have said you usually end up doing something you will not enjoy. and how exactly will aircraft mechanic benefit you more while serving?
