  1. If you drive mostly in heavy traffic and do a lot of stopping, you will

appreciate the automatic. If you drive in a hilly area, the automatic can be

easier to start after stopping on an incline. The main advantage of the

manual is less maintenance and cost of the maintenance. My Dodge

Pickup (1 ton) has a five speed manual and I need the ability to shift

it to the lower gears to control downhill speed.

  2. Pros and cons to both but do not be fooled as i was after driving a merc auto which was really slow and i hated driving, but since my wife allowed me to buy Nissan Skyline auto and in fact we are on our second auto Skyline and have driven an impreza, supra and a 300gt auto all of which have been great fun with instant power when the pedal is touched to high speeds. And with extra controls like overdrive and a power button to allow redline changes to a rev hold button which holds the revs in that gear until you want them to change all gives good fun to auto's .

So driving a Sports auto box is nothing like low cc cars with an autobox.

And with triptronic which allows stick or manual control and the new auto setup in the new Nissan GTR,all gives auto's more of an experience.

I like both stick and auto in the right cars.

  3. Manual all the way mate.

Im 16,i got my licence a couple of weeks back,i learnt in a manual and bought a manual, its a much better way to go.Automatics are for old people.

Stick with manual, haha stalling is all part of the fun.

In a manual car you have much more control over how  quickly you gain speed, they are more fuel efficient vehicles and keep you more alert.

  4. Automatics take the effort out of driving, use more fuel and cost more to repair. Stick with a manual makes driving more interesting

  5. I prefer Automatic. It helps me keep my speed down. I drive slower and safer. whenever I drive a manual, I go way too fast.

  6. Actually I don't mind either. However I generally use an automatic as I have an artificial leg and on long journeys I like to take it off. Also if the leg breaks and they do sometimes I can still drive the car. When I had a manual I used to keep an attachment in the boot so that if the leg did break I could put that on the clutch pedal and use my stump to work the clutch. I did get some quotes for putting a hand clutch on it was about £200 and this device I made for £1. The only problem I have found is after driving a manual for some time then going to an automatic there can be a danger of trying to drop a gear when you see a problem approaching so as to slow the car down and it does not work and you can lose precious time.

  7.   You should still learn to drive one. Picture this. You're out with your friend, in their car. It happens to be a stick shift. Your friend gets hurt, beat up, whatever. They take him off in an ambulance, now you're stuck with his stick shift car.Your cell phone's broken his is missing, but you don't think about it until they haul him off. Now what? Get the picture?

Pros= better fuel milage, you're never gonna have to call your girlfriend(who can drive a manual) for a ride.

Cons= it takes practice, it sucks in stop and go traffic
