Question:

Which treeless saddle brand is best?

My friend just bought a horse (Diego!!) and she wants to trade her childhood saddle in! She had been looking for a treeless saddle, which I think is smart! So comfortable for both! They range from few hundred up to the thousands. She found a cheaper brand that starts with an "H" (i forgot the name), but she is wondering if it will affect the quality? Any suggestions?

  1. The cheaper brand is hilason your talking about and it is cheap.  I tried one once and thought it was the most uncomfortable thing i have ever sat on.  My mule hated it, but it was one quick ride around the arena and he was high headed and very uncomfortable.  There is a gal on here that uses one and speaks highly of it tho.

Bob Marshalls, and not ones made by Circle Y, only the original BM's have the market.  I have heard tons of good remarks about them.

  2. I think she would like the cheaper one because more expensive don't always mean that it's better because most of the time you are only paying more because of the name.

  3. Bob Marshells are the best!!!! They are great!

  4. If the "H" brand is Hilason - DO NOT BUY - it is a piece of junk and poorly made - also, if you have a problem, they are not a good company to deal with.  They ripped me off for two saddle pads I returned and never got my money back.    If you want a western type saddle, the absolute best is an ORIGINAL BOB MARSHALL (not a Circle Y Bob Marshall).  The Circle Y's are good saddles but they are machine made.  The original Bob Marshall is a hand made saddle and you can order exactly what you want.  Quality is excellent.  Get a good saddle pad and your saddle will not slip.  That is a complaint I hear from people who have tried the treeless saddles but did not use a good saddle pad.  My saddles do not slip and I am not someone who rides with an overly tight girth/cinch (it's probably even a bit on the loose side).  My english jumping and dressage saddles are Ansur's.   I like my saddles very much but the newer models are much improved with a better twist (some feel the older dressage saddle is a bit flat).  I have a Bob Marshall endurance saddle that I have fitted with leathers and irons, and I do a lot of riding and training in that saddle.  All Bob Marshall's have the "fenders/stirrups" set back farther than normal so it makes your leg position much better for riding (my opinion).  The BM saddles are also measured differently than traditional western saddles so this will make a difference.  Go to www.sportssaddle .com for good information on the original BM saddles.  There are always several for sale on eBay and sometimes you can get a deal but not often.  These saddles retain their value well so if you get a new one, it can take up to 3 months to get your saddle but you get to choose all of your specifics and you get the warranty.  So, look around.  This is a big investment but I would prefer quality over the junk that's out there.  You can get a saddle for $300 but that is what it is worth.  I have 3 original Bob Marshall sports saddles and they are the best.  Happy shopping.

  5. It depends is it for western or english?

  6. I have a neighbor that has one and she likes it very much.
