Which trip---Hawaii or Caribbean Cruise---10 points to best complete answer!?

Not too fast...I'm looking for a SPECIFIC answer, based on my scenario. I want more than a one-word "Hawaii" or "Caribbean" answer. I'm anxious to hear explanation of WHY you'd choose one over the other.

PUT YOURSELF IN MY SHOES:

We want one last hurrah before we start trying for kids. We are trying to decide between going to Hawaii or going on Caribbean cruise.

Hawaii is supposed to be beautiful, as is the Caribbean, but it's more expensive, so we are less likely to go after we have kids. Everyone says now is the time to go to Hawaii or you never will...

OR

Caribbean Cruise-we have never been on a cruise and would love to see the beautiful blue Caribbean and the multiple destinations and excursions. We could more likely take a family cruise (after we have kids) than a Hawaiian family trip, down the road.

1) we've never been to either and never been on a cruise.

2) we don't have kids yet, but plan to in the next year

3) cost is not a factor, 'pre-kids'

Is one more breathtaking??

  1. honestly, i think you answered your own question. it looks like hawaii would be the best choice for you at this time. i've never been to the caribbean, but i lived in hawaii for 2 years and it was the most beautiful place i've ever been. kailua-kona is pretty ugly, but the beaches are nice, and oahu is amazing. whether you want to hike, snorkel, go clubbing in the city, go to a secluded beach or a more crowded beach close to amenities, oahu has all of it. oahu also has cheaper hotel options than maui or kauai.

  2. If you go on a cruise you'll be confined to a ship.  My advice if you want one last "Hurrah" is to do the trip to Hawaii where you'll be able to go on excursions and have the full experience.  Go snorkeling, swim with dolphins, try para sailing.  Also, the rooms on a cruise ship are TINY at best, and if you don't shell out the extra $$$$ you'll be lucky to have one round window the size of your head and a tiny bathroom.  I may be a little biased but I say stay in a resort with King Sized beds and jacuzzi tubs.  PAMPER YOURSELVES

  3. For your specific situation, I'm leaning more towards Hawaii for you. Like you said, you are probably less likely to go after you have kids, because it's such a HUGE trip, and you're not going to be able to jet around, go snorkeling, sky diving, hangliding, helicopter riding, hiking, biking, kayaking, and just plain traveling *as easily* as you can right now. You and your spouse can really drink up Hawaii and enjoy yourselves.

I've never been to Hawaii, but I've cruised several times. Cruises are also really awesome, so really there is no wrong choice, but IMO you'd be able to cruise more easily with kids than go to Hawaii with kids. When you're on a cruise, you just hang around the boat (which is not boring, there's plenty to do, but it's all so easily accessible) so it's not as 'labor intensive' as other normal traveling, bc you literally have everything at your fingertips. IMO cruises are great for when you absolutely need to just sit your butt in front of the ocean, be completely waited upon and totally relax from it all.

Also, like you said, cruises are cheaper, so if $ is not an obstacle now, I'd say definitely do Hawaii, because $ might be more of a factor later, after you have kids.

And, to answer your last question, I think Hawaii is probably more 'breathtaking' with all of the unique characteristics of each individual island, geographic and social. Caribbean is incredibly beautiful, but if you've seen one Caribbean beach you've seen most.

  4. ive done both...unfortunatley they are both fantastic and cannot be compared with each other...why not combine a cruise that GOES to hawaii!  the carribean is so much easier to reach if you have kids later on

  5. I haven't been on a cruise.  I have to say Hawaii is the most amazing place I have ever been.  I cant' explain it but it is so beautiful.  You have to go to Maui and see the seven pools. They do have cruises in Hawaii so maybe that will work.  I live on the East coast so the Caribbean is much easier to do.  Absolutly Hawaii

  6. I'd choose Hawaii, because Cruise ships make me worry about Norwalk virus.
