and towing trailers??

the choices are:

1. Toyota Tacoma

2. Nissan Frontier

3. Ford Ranger

I like the Toyota Tacoma and the Nissan Frontier. i have heard good things about both and i like both manufacturers and i like the body design

i know the Ford Ranger is the most fuel effecient truck in production but is it really reliable and will it be dependable enough to haul truck- loads of wood over and over again

  1. I know all these people are spouting off about the relaibility of the toyota and nissan, buts thats not really true. sure toyota and nissan make very relaible cars and have for years, but ford has been making reliable trucks for years. Unlike the other two the ranger is more of a truck, heavier frame and suspension. I know lots of people who get well over 100k miles out of there rangers and beat them up in the process. Wood is heavy, i have seen rangers take that kind of work for yrs, i have seen some toyotas do it, and havnt seen a nissan do it. The japanese car companies have had trouble making trucks that you can really use as a truck and have them hold up. If you maintain anything properly they will hold up for some time and the Ford is built more for work.

Also like another answer said, the 6cyl engines in all those vehicles suck gas bigtime, your better off going with a half ton truck (ford f-150 or similar) with a 6cyl or small v8. The gas milage wont be any different from the 6cyl versions of those smaller trucks and you will get more power and payload capability, and also the price isnt to much higher either.

  2. I would look at the tacoma and frontier and take the ranger off the list, its not as reliable as the toyota or Nissan, the nissan and toyota are both very good trucks i would just compare the two and drive both and see what you like better. but i hope this helps

  3. Toyota Tacoma.....................................

  4. I've seen at least one Ford Ranger make it past 400K miles but even with that I'd be hesitant to buy a Ford.

The Nissan Frontier depends on year, the 04- models had a KA24DE engine which was underpowered and I would assume got some decent gas mileage, a VG33E which was a bit more powerful but even on a 3000lb family sedan you are looking at 24mpg tops with an automatic in the city with a VG, a supercharged VG33ER which again probably isn't great on gas. The newer models I forget what mileage they get but they have a VQ40DE which is a huge 4 liter V6 and with that kind of displacement I'd doubt it would get great mileage.

I don't really like Tacomas and I've heard Toyota is getting worse in reliability but I know Toyotas almost always get better mileage than Nissans and in recent years have been better than Hondas.

  5. Having owned a 4 cylinder Ranger that I got my share of 284,000 miles out of, it will do the job.  Both v6s chug gas and have other issues I'd stay away from.

The newer versions of the other two trucks I would not trust.  Quality surveys agree.

Really, newer Toyota Tacomas came with the composite bed that cracked to h**l.  WTF???

  6. You can't go wrong with Tacoma.

  7. The Ranger is reliable and the 4 cylinder is fuel efficient, but it's very outdated, and boring. The other trucks have much more to offer than the Ranger.

Get the Tacoma, it's has the best reputation. The Frontier is a very nice, strong truck, but the Tacoma has everything you could want in a mid-sized truck.

  8. Nun. Those truck are grocery getters, U seem to want a truck that works. Get a 1/2 ton. Sure it will use more gas. But a 2 wheel drive half ton isnt that bad
