  1. Proud to say the United States of America and I hope we never sign that piece of trash. You want to kill your economy then sign it. We enjoy our freedom to much to hand control of our manufacturing to the UN.

  2. I am Australian (well a Brit living there for now) and I agree with tose who say that the Kyoto Protocol is a travesty.  It is confused, full of ambiguity, and I believe that Mr Rudd only signed it out of desperation.  He did not want to be shamed on the world stage and because of all his leftie pressure groups which helped him to power wanted it.

Honestly, Kyoto is more about show than real amends for addressing GW.

Thus far, the US is the last hold-out, though I should clarify my poisition.

I do think that the Scientific Precautionary Principle should be applied in this situation, wherein a possible problem, Enhanced Global Warming, has been identfied, as have a number of possible disasters caused by it.  This principle states that we should act to prevent this possible disaster rather than just ignore it.  I do not believe Kyoto represents proper action.

.  Unlike the American respondents who seem to think it is a conspiracy against US success, I rather think it is because the US economy is in such a parlous state that it could not afford to make any significant changes, and the American people are against the idea of letting other nations 'tell hem what to do'.  From a certain standpoint this is admirable, and yet also selfish.

This is just another form of Isolationism.  Mind you, I think America is in for a shock: China is set to be the next powerhouse economy, with a human resource that the US can never hope to match.  Also, do not discount India either, though China is more advanced down this road.

  3. The two with the most to lose by sanctions.

  4. Only the US. Australia signed it a few months ago and acknowledge that it was a mistake not do have done so earlier.    This is not a list to be #1 (and only) on!

Some good things may have come of it.  I think China has unofficially recognized the problem.  I'm not sure if India has recognized the problem or not.  It seems I've heard something about it at a conference the US was hosting to "address" the climate change issue.  This will be important in the future, by now the US needs to step up.  Fortunately, many US companies already are.  The presidential candidates left already recognize the problem and have some ideas to start addressing it.

  5. The only country which participated not to have ratified it is the USA.  Australia signed it recently.

"The first act of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's center-left [Australian] government was to belatedly ratify the Kyoto agreement."

  6. The US has not signed it and never will. That is not to say the US will never adress Global Warming, but we will not be coerced into bankruptcy by a bunch of foreign governments. America will address the issue in its own way. Many companies are going green voluntarily. This is far more in keeping with American ideals of freedom and liberty. The Kyoto protocols sought to put all of the financial burden for reducing the world's green house gases on the US. It was a poorly veiled attempt to cripple the US economy. It is clear that The US must come up with its own plan to deal with this issue, because the rest of the world seeks only to punish the US for its economic success.

  7. One of Canada's Prime Ministers signed it but our current PM so much as called it toilet paper and will not lead our country to bankruptcy by honouring that harmful document.
