  1. Gold and Silver

    DK

  2. Aurum (Au) = gold

    Argentum (Ag) = silver

Interestingly enough, Argentina is named after Argentum, the Latin word for silver.

    Other interesting names include:

    cuprum (Cu) = copper

    ferrum (Fe) = iron

    hydrargyrum (Hg) = mercury

    kalium (K) = potassium *

    natrium (Na) = sodium *

    plumbum (Pb) = lead

    stannum (Sn) = tin

    stibium (Sb) = antimony

    * not known in the times of the ancient Romans

Now you know where all those crazy symbols come from! Oh, except one: wolfram (W) was the former name of tungsten, but it's not Latin.

  3. gold and silver

  4. I could add anoher couple of cool element names  to Brian's list. Molybdenum, from the Greek molybdos = lead

Praseodymium Gr   praseo=green didymos = twin

    Tellurium  L  tellus= earth
