The Govt of Germany, does not allow us to have a Handgun which has a cal more than .22.Without any choice I got a Walther P22. Can you please let me know which type of ammo will be the best for lethality(For the bad guys,I just hope I never have to use it for this purpose):

Subsonic, which also includes "target" or "match" loads, at nominal speeds below 1100 feet (335 m) per second.

Standard-velocity: 1120–1135 feet (340–345 meters) per second.

High-velocity: 1200–1310 feet (365–400 meters) per second.

Hyper-velocity, or Ultra-velocity: over 1400 feet (425 m) per second.

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

  1. If you are bound to the .22, then try to locate some CCI Velocitor rounds.  I have trouble finding them, but they are absolutely devastating bullets.

  2. If you have to use a .22lr  for self defense, then you want to use the hyper velocity hollow point bullets.  If you have ever used them hunting, you would see why I recommend them.  They make a mess and are not recommended for hunting small game at a close range for maximum preservation of meat.    They work well on varmints at a longer range.

  3. G'day mate just get a .223 rem.cheers mate

  4. The best I have found have either been the Wolf Match Target or the Federal Champion. You are talking 22 LR right?

  5. Aguila Interceptors hands down are the fastest and hardest hitting.

  6. the most lethal 22 lr ammunition available today is the cci stingers and cci 22 lr segmented hollow point

  7. hollow point for sure

  8. Those velocities you quote are from rifle length barrels.

You won't see more than 900 FPS out of a .22 RFpistol.

High velocity 40Gr. solids are your best bet,

    (you'll need the penetraion).

Count on needing three or four of them, well placed,

    for a 'stop'.

  9. CCI Velocitors, hands down.  Velocity is for c**p if you can't use that speed and resulting energy.  Velocitors have controlled expansion that means 100% of the energy is used in wounding the target, not the wall behind it.

  10. Definitely go hollow point

  11. According to the Winchester Guide Book for 2008 it is the Winchester Super-X   # XHV22LR 40 grain bullet is the fastest 1,435 Feet per second muzzle velocity.*

  12. Take a look at hyper-velocity hollow-point loads such as the CCI Stinger and CCI Velocitor. They're probably going to deliver the most power in your pistol. That power should translate into improved terminal performance if you ever have to use the gun for self defense.

  13. Given the short barrel length of the pistol I would go with the hyper velocity. I would do a hollow point. A bullet kills with hemorrhaging and shock trauma. The faster the bullet the more shock trauma.  A bullet in a person can travel in an erratic fashion. For example you shoot them in the stomach the bullet might go sideways ( at an angle) into the lungs. You should also look at the effect of the bullet weight (grain) in terms of lethality. Where you shoot the person is also important. The standard target area is the chest around the sternum. The reason is that the heart, lungs, liver and spleen are in close proximity to the target area. These are vital organs.
