My daughter is getting married soon and her and her fieance were discussing having a Jack and Jill party, and fore-going all the stags and showers, etc...

Do you prefer the Jack and Jill party that is by invitation only? Or do you prefer the Jack and Jill party where tickets are sold to anyone who will come?

Why?

  1. There's different kinds. I'm not a big fan of the fundraiser type, although I recognise that there are circles where people want a big wedding enough to chip in cash. And yes, I'm aware that showers are also asking for gifts, but to me a stag and doe (as they call them here) is like asking for cash as wedding gifts.

  2. i agree with the answer above, i would go with the jack and jill where u sell the tickets

  3. The purpose of a jack and jill is to raise money for the bride and groom.

Buy haveing an "invite only" you wil not make very much money.

Buy selling tickets at say $10 buck a peice, you will make more money.

    A lot of people have:

-a silent auction ( have friends and family donate things if they can or know people who can)

    - throw a pie in their face - $2 bucks a toss or 3 for $5

    - pinata - $2 bucks a hit

    - 50/50 draw where half the funds goes to the winner and the other half goes to the bride and groom

the list could go on forever.

So I would say that unless the bride and groom have a money tree a "sell tickets" kind of jack and jill is the way to go

  4. Wow, I thought I heard it all.  I have never heard of a shower that is also a fundraiser.  The only Jack and Jill's I have ever been to were parties for the bride's and groom's friends and families.  Those were a great time.  I don't think I agree with holding a fundraiser.  I would not buy a ticket for a couple that I don't know so they could raise money for a wedding that I also would not be attending.
