  1. It really depends upon what your needs are. Each type of camcorder has pros and cons. For example DVD records at a lower quality than MiniDV, but it is convenient because you record on DVD and then you can watch it on DVD forever.

MiniDV takes some time and/or money to transfer it to DVD, just to make it easy to watch.

HDD camcorders record at or better than DVD camcorders, but lower than MiniDV. But you can store 7-40 hours of footage on an HDD camcorder before you have to transfer it to your computer and then to DVD.

Here are a few links for you that compare the three:

    Good luck!

  2. when it comes to standard definition, DV takes the gold. Uncompressed audio, light interframe compressed video, 720 horizontal pixels and self archiving without consuming hard drive space on your computer.

HD has more pixels, but requires MPEG2 intra frame compression. DVD and Digital Camera versions compress the audio. miniDVD has a short recording time. HDV has many of the features of DV tapes but is limited to 1440 horizontal pixels.

  3. DVD - Ease of downloading to computers, Lower quality than MiniDV

HDV - Ease of downloading to computers , Lower quality than MiniDV

MiniDV - Takes some amount of work ,High quality

  4. I like the regular DVD camcorder.  The digital ones are too blurry with fast movement..  The mini's are too mini.  The DVD is just right!!  LOL!!!  I got into a Goldilock's thing there.... :)

  5. DVD and MiniDV *are* digital, but MiniDV is better quality.  You capture the video from MiniDV via firewire - if your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable.

  6. I think the digital ones are nice. You wont have any problem copying the videos to your computer. The quality is better than dvds.

and the mini dvs are good for their price but have low quality.

The dvds have almost similar quality as that of mini dvs, but are a bit costlty and also the video length recordable is too short.
