  1. I would go with a lighter color.  A nice sage green or glacier blue, maybe a yellow or a nice tan.  The light color will make the room look larger.  I would only use different shades if you have a chair rail or something like that and you have a way to contrast the two different shades.  I would go white with the chair rail and would also use darker furniture to anchor the room and so that it's not washed out in a light room.

  2. lighter colors tend to make a room look larger.  Often ceilings are white, while only the walls have color.

  3. A light color would make a room look bigger. Dark colors bring more shadow, making things seem closer together than actuality.

Some nice colors for an "in-between girly girl and tomboy" would be a light yellow, a milky green, an off white, or maybe even a very light orange.

You can use dark accessories or a dark color as the accent.

  4. Light always makes a small room look bigger........and if you want it to look even bigger on the new house....vault the ceilings or scissor truss some of the area's.......that gives a home a feeling off spacious.....that means you slope the ceilings upward........good luck

  5. My teen daughter's room has 3 colors-a sky blue, limey apple green and strong lavender. All work with her comforter set. Each wall also shows her in different ways- the dancer, lots of framed pictures on those skinny shelves, a study wall, and her girly makeup wall. Everyone loves it and it is really neat. Her room is not completely rectangular and has  inset areas.   Sometimes it is easier to start with you bedding colors first. Have fun and good luck!

  6. light yellow

  7. light

  8. blue is a great color, especially if you use a light color, contrasted w/ a darker carpet and an in-between bed set. you could also use orange, although that's kinda weird.... i'm doing blue.... no don't use different shades. personally, that looks weird. maybe a real light shade of green???
