I want a playful, friendly, hamster, with short hair, that doesn't really need to be with other hamsters. Also I'm a beginner with Hammies so I was wondering which kind is good for beginners.

  1. I love golden hamsters/Syrian hamster their the same thing.i have 2 but they r in seperate cages and dont ned a buddy i have a cream colored 1 and a normal 1 i would get a cream colored 1 cause they are adoreable!! they all are so cute and their hair stays short and are soooo soft! i heart holdin em! i get mine out ALOT because they love 2 play w/  this cat ball i got em lol they also love runing aroung in their ball and exploring the house but it SUCKS when they pee in their balls . ewww dwarf  hamsters are U-G-L-Y i hada few and they were asmean as h**l  : (

  2. A teddy bear hamster! THey are small, cute, and fuzzy. THey like to run around their cage, so you might want to buy a hamster ball. The also need wood treats to narrow their teeth down. Besides that, all they want from you is food, water, bedding, and love! They are my favorite hamster breed. My grandkids had two, a mother and a daughter, for 4 years. They are perfect!

  3. black bear hamsters are the bomb they are black and white and so cute

  4. A good type of hamster for you is a Syrian hamster. Here is a link...

    Hope this helped

  5. Syrians are the BEST for someone like you. They HATE other hamster they will fight each other, but to people they are the  SWEETEST THINGS! (also called teddy bears or goldens) They love people and i have a link for you here:

  6. I would say that dwarf hamsters are for advance owners so a Syrian hamster would work best with you i think.

Syrian hamsters come in both long haired which is called Teddy Bear and short hair which is called Syrian(of coarce).

They are very active and love to play.

Just try to give them a day alone with cage covered for the first day/night and dont give them that much attention until a day or so.

    HOPE THIS HELPS,

    -Amanda

  7. Any type of hamster is playful and friendly and make great pets. However many people prefer to buy syrian hamsters if they are having hamsters as pet for the first time.

The reason being syrian hamsters are easier to tame than dwarfs. Not that dwarfs are difficult, they are equally cute, but they take longer time to get used to their handlers. Also dwarfs once tamed, should be handled atleast once a week, otherwise they tend to become untame again. Syrians on the other hand, once tamed, are friends for life.

Another consideration is if you have small children in the house, it is easier for them to handle syrians who are bigger than dwarfs which are very small.

  8. a syrian hamster by far!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have had them since i was 5 and i have owned over 30 in my life i am 13 years old now. They don't like being with other hamsters they are a good size meaning they are not very fast like dwarf hamsters. and they are also very friendly and easy to handle. they come in short and long hair so that is good and they are great starter pets! i really hope i helped, thanks jess

  9. A SYRIAN hamster. They are the easiest to handle. They are the largest  pet species and the most common to find in pet stores/breeders. While lively and active when young, they usually grow into calm pets. They are easier to handle because they are larger and more robust. When full grown they are less likely to bolt and leap out of your hands then the dwarf breeds. Compared to the dwarf breeds, Syrians are more likely to hold still for more petting and cuddling for a few minutes. Since they are territorial and MUST be kept one to a cage, that might be good for you because all of the dwarf breeds need to be kept in pairs 2 or more of the same gender. =D good luck!!

  10. hmm, do you want a small hamster? if you do try a chinese dwarf hamster they are really cute and mine is very friendly . if you want a bigger hamster ( which  may need a bigger more expensive cage) here are some suggestions: syrians(who dont need a buddy), teddy bear hamsters black bear hamsters. -hope this helps

  11. There are really only a few species of hamsters on the pet market - Syrians and a few species of dwarf hamsters.

Syrian hamsters are also called golden hamsters, black bears, panda bears, honey bears, teddy bears, common hamsters, fancy hamsters, but they're all the same type. They can have long hair or short hair.

If you only want one, Syrians are the way to go since they're solitary by nature and really need to be kept alone. They're also - obviously - bigger than dwarf hamsters, so they can be easier to handle.

As for it being friendly, any hamster has the potential to be a nice, friendly pet if you devote the time to handling it and socializing it.  Pet store hamsters tend not to have had lots of human contact, so they might be scared of people to begin with or even bite out of fear, but the more time you spend with it, the friendlier and happier it will be.
