  1. an IRA is an individual retirement account. a 401K is a retirement  profit sharing plan, sponsored by an employer. Both defer tax payments until retirement. These are called pre-tax investments.

You can purchase equities, bonds, mutual funds, hard assets, in either a 401K or an IRA. With a 401K, you can contribute more than you can to an IRA. There is also a Roth IRA, which is an after-tax investment. Right now, the highest returns seem to be coming from Canadian Royalty Trusts and MLPs. However, there are some good companies that pay good dividends. Generally, large cap blue chips are known to pay good dividends- like Philip Morris, Coca Cola, AT & T, Verizon, GE, etc.

and the last word, the more you learn the more you get

  3. From my experience it seems forex trading gives us the greatest return on any investment. It is bigger than equity market . It allows us to trade 100 times more the amount we invest  with its unique high leverage margin program.

  4. In evaluating  investments to know the one with highest return, two factors need to be considered:

    Time

    Risk

Some investments are of very high returns but with hihg risk - the higher the return the higher the risk.

Forex trading is one of such. Arguably the one with the highest return. Investment can be doubled in a matter of hours and vice versa.

Landed property is of good consistent return over a long period

    So, the choice is yours.

  5. At any given point in time it will be Equity Market which would stand out. On the way up as well as on the way down. You need to be constantly doing what need to be done to earn big bucks.

  6. Forex actually gives you the smallest moves of most markets and the only way people make serious money is from leverage. Actually the "investment" that has the biggest percentage moves typically is an option. It can easily move hundreds of percent a day. Technically tho, options and forex as well as futures are trading vehicles not investments. The key difference being that investments grow in value over time due to underlying businesses and fundamentals.

  7. (1) Cut your losses short, quickly and let your winners run.  This is beyond the mental discipline of most people.

    (2) Run against the crowd:  get to the party a little early and leave well before midnight...especially if you are having a good time.  This is virtually impossible for most people.

    (3) Keep your retirement money and your investing for a richer tomorrow money separate.  Keep your retirement money invested in low-cost, indexed, balanced, equity portfolios.

IRA is a personal self-managed, self-directed option for tax-advantaged retirement savings.  401(k) is a corporate option offered to employees as a benefit.  Each is based upon it's own section of the tax code.

In general both should be used to the full extent you can.

Retirement savings should start at what ever level you can manage TODAY with the goal being a minimum of 10% of your gross income for the rest of your life.  If you start by age 30, 10% per year will get you a confortable retirement sometime after 65.  If you want early retirement, you should bank on saving at least 15%-20% of gross income every year, or start at age 21.
