Question:

Which type of jump boots for my horse?

I am looking into getting jump boots for my horse just for some added protection. I am not familiar with any types of open front jump boots though so I have no idea how to narrow down my search for the right boot. I am searching Dover and there are so many options. What are your opinions?

Leather or Plastic? I like the looks of the leather but is their any benefits to going with the plastic?

Neoprene or Fleece or Leather lining?

Velcro or Straps or Hook and Stud Closures? If straps, how many straps? They sell boots with 3 and 4.

Any particular brands that are know to be good or bad?

How do you figure out sizing? I am guessing a 15.2 TB is a medium.

Please post a picture of your dream jump boot along with your answer if possible (pretend money isnt a problem).

Thanks!

Oh. If anyone knows where the jump boot reviews on http://www.horsetackreview.com/ could you tell me? I cant find them.

Again, thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot.

  2. id go with leather open front boots...fleece are optional but i personally think the fleece looks a little tacky...but dont get the plastic ones...they looks cheap and just yuck...lol

this is a link to the front & hind boots...i have these and they are great!!!

  3. If you don't really know what your looking for yet. Just get some splint boots. He'll probably be a medium. Just remember straps to the back when you put them on.

  4. I have the leather ones with the sheepskin liners and I have some cheapies made of plastic with a neoprene liner.  I love the look of the leather, but in honestly, my cheap ones are much better!!  I ride outside sometimes and if there is any mud, puddles or even heavy dew the darn leather ones are ruined!  The plastic ones are easy to clean, are impact resistant, adjust much more easily and stay up with less pressure than my good ones.  My cheapies are performers choice, and are really the bottom of the barrel.  I believe that Woof wear makes nice ones that share the good features of mine, but are better quality.

  5. Leather looks nicer, plastic is easier to take care of and cheaper. I prefer leather.

Neoprene lining is easier to take care of. Fleece is soooo nice for the horse, but a HUGE pain to clean the mud off of.

Velcro tends to wear out quicker. I love hook and stud closures. 3 or 4 straps are fine, no real difference there.

If you're going plastic, Eskadrons are the best. For leather, I actually think Dover's Italian leather boots are really nice. They come with neoprene or fleece lining http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp... If you're willing to spend more, look into Equi-fit t-boots. They are like memory foam, wonderful for your horse's legs, but they're a bit pricey. Make sure to get the ones with removeable lining though, cuz otherwise they're hard to take care of. http://www.equifit.net/products.asp?view... I LOVE the t-boots, they are the best!

A medium would probably be fine for your horse. Happy shopping :)

  6. i would go with the leather with the sheep fleece lining, it will be more comfortable for the horse & leather will look nice
