  1. A Google UK search for "230/110 volt transformers" produces many results.

I would suggest that you use one rated a little higher than your stated load, say 1500W, and one that is double wound (i.e. not an auto-transformer) and which has a three pronged grounded outlet.

    One Google result is http://www.ryness.co.uk/productslist.asp...

  2. How long are you stopping in the UK?  You might find it less expensive to hire a power tool transformer which has 110V outlets.  The plugs will be different to the US standard, but you can buy a suitable plug from the tool hire centre where you got the transformer and fix this to a US extension lead.

Note that if the appliance contains a motor or timer then it will probably run at the wrong speed.  The mains frequency in the UK is 50Hz, not 60.

  3. I did a search on Radio Spares and found plenty options.

If you buy a tool transformer, you will need to rewire the ground connection on it because they are center tapped and you require 120 and neutral for safely using US appliances.

I don't understand your comment about wanting quality. Mains electricity is anything but good quality anyway. Buy a UPS if you want quality.

  4. Recommended transformer for your US appliance in the UK is 1500Volt-amperes, 230/110Volts AC, single phase
