Loft as in an attic converted into a room in my own home. The room is to be used as a bedroom and personal living space.

  1. I just answered this Q in the maintenance category.   I made the assumption that the loft room was a loft inside a dwelling, as in a room overlooking another room with a wall or partial wall open to the room or rooms below.

Since I happen to love wood floors I take issue with the termite problem.  Termites will eat the structure of your home long before they will become evident enough to eat your floors.  Termites are an entirely different issue.

How you enter and exit your loft and what your intended use will be should be the only determining factor as to what you use for flooring.  If it is a conventional loft as described above, then your only restrictions are how you enter and exit the loft.  In my State a loft under 400 square feet can be accessed by a ladder only, anything larger would require a stairway.  So if you have egress issues then you may wish to rule out carpeting, because of cleaning issues with the vacuum cleaner.

  2. yeah carpet is good and wood is not good because wood would just be consumed by termites carpet is good but dust is what its not cool about so i think marble would do or maybe granite

  3. If by Loft you happen to be in a situation where others LIVE below, as seems to have been assumed??? Then certainly any hard finish flooring might be an issue. In the UK, it may even be dictated what types are allowed.

If this is a "Loft" or second level in ones own home, it hardly matters. If the subfloor is stable, then ANY flooring can be used, when installed properly. I think for us to assume what you mean, is a stretch. I know of LOFTS over garages. I know of LOFTS, open to the first floor with rooms off an open hall/walk, surrounding the opening to the floor below. We howevere do not know your situation.

    Just my two "Sense"

  4. Laminate flooring is great but linoleum would be good too. Just mop and go clean up.  Then just throw scatter rugs around where needed. Carpet holds dust and dirt.

  5. Solid or laminate flooring is noisy for people below trying to sleep - carpet is better.
