Question:

Which updates should I install for my Windows OS?

I have to admit, I'm not very good at taking care of my laptop. I'm running Windows Vista, and I've had it for about a year. I just noticed (yeah, I'm a little slow) the Windows update icon in my little tray thing. Windows did some updating this morning. And I still have 24 available updates, 1 is important, 20 recommended, 3 optional. Of the 20 recommended, most are "Update for Windows Vista". Should I be running each update? Or do I just choose the most recent one available? Or do I ignore them?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Usually it's best to do all of them.  It can't hurt.

  2. Hi, I don't know but have u update to Vista Service Pack 1 yet?

To check if u have Vista SP1, open the start menu then right click on computer and then properties and if its say Vista Service Pack 1 then just install updates shown, otherwise download SP1 first from here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...

Once this is installed, remember to install ALL updates as they show up to keep your machine stable, secure and running smoothly :)

    Good Luck and take care!

  3. You should install ALL the important updates. The recommended ones,  look them over carefully. Install ALL that apply to your computer, and are in English, you probably won't need the language packs. The optional ones again look them over some may not be needed.

It does not hurt any to install them all it just takes up hard drive space and you probably have plenty.

  4. Well if you can download them all, i think you should do it...

you definitely shouldn't ignore them. If you can't download them all, then install the most important and those recommended.

  5. you should download all the updates.

though they all may be named 'Update for Windows Vista', they are different and every update is important. you can go to windows update site and check out what each update contains. open internet explorer. go to 'Tools' and choose 'Windows Update'.

always keep your OS [Vista], antivirus and antispyware programs updated.
