Which uses the more water, sugar cane or corn?

And why are rice firelds in CA not converted to cane fields if the sugar content is heavier than corn?

  1. Sugarcane crops need much more water than any corn. It needs irrigation every fourth/ fifth day for almost a year.


  2. well down here in the south, it rains plenty so no extra water is used on sugar cane in general.

    I believe the answer to your second question is that cane requires a tropical or subtropical climate.

    sugarcane is a plant twice the hight  of corn and it is a lot thicker, it take double the water to raise it if not more.

    It is mostly grown in the humid tropics ,I got a lot in the garden on the edges it also produces more stems compared to corns only one

    a conservative estimate there for would be 2000 tons of water for one ton of sugar cane
