I have a plasma tv and a dvd player and I'm using a component video cable, but the video quality is not so good as i was expecting. That's why I thought it would be a good idea to switch to a scart cable, but before I do this I need some advice.Sorry for my english....:D

  1. hdmi cable is the best

you have to get a blue ray player for best quality (try a ps3)

  2. HDMI is the best connection, i think from there it goes composite, svideo, component

  3. In theory an HDMI cable gives the best picture. But since a DVD player only generates a relatively low resolution image (unless it is an upconverting DVD player) a component cable will give you as good a picture as HDMI. Furthermore, consider that the majority of professional HT installers still prefer to install component cables (rather than HMDI) simply because they are less prone to problems and, for most uses, give just as good results.

If you have a 1080p HDTV it might be worth trying an HDMI cable (assuming your DVD player has HDMI output (most do not), but 720p HDTVs will generally not benefit from HDMI.

At all costs you weant to avoid composite, SCART, and S-video.

That said, in reality there is no way to predict whether HDMI or Component cables will give the best picture. You really have to try it. You also should try various resolution settings for the output of the DVD player (e,g, 480i, 480p and higher if it's an upconverting model) since the relative quality of the video processor in the various components can make a difference.

  4. Here are the connections from worst to best.

RF Cable. this transmits the Red, Green, Blue colors, Chromium, Luminance, Horizontal and Verticle and audio via one cable and has alot of interference and is the worst connection.

Composite (not to be confused with Component) is the yellow cable, it does all that the RF cable does but takes out the audio signal (which are sent via red and white anlog cables) so gives a slightly better picture but still suffers from interference.

S-Video takes all the above but actually separates the colors, Chromium and Luminance and horizontal and Verticle along seperate cables but all enclosed in one cable.  Give an even better picture than Composite. Audio is still transmitted seperatly

Component (not to be confused with Composite)  is a three cable system (red, blue and green) most people think the color of the cables transmits that color but they are wrong.  Most of the colors are transmitted via one cable with some of the red being transmitted along two cables.  the Chromium and Horizontal are transmitted via the second cable and the Luminance and verticle are transmitted with the third cable.  Because there is so much speration it is the best analog connection to use. And high enough bandwidth to transmit up to 1080p images.  Again no sound transmittal.

DVI is a pure digital connection of all video signals along seperate pathways with no interference. It doesnt transmit audio so you need to send audio along other connections (optical, Stereo analog, or 75 Ohm coaxial)

HDMI is the very best connection, it transmits both audio and video in it's pure digital form with no interference.
