  1. Define format and "highest quality". Do you mean film or digital? Do you rate quality on resolution, colour gamut, or something else? Do you mean experimental, commercial or available for home use?

    Imax film is probably the highest commercial quality video format ... but it isn't digital.

    For digital I'd suggest "4K theatre" (2160p) such as is used by Sony's SXRD commercial projectors.

    But arguably the Japanese experimental super HD format (7680x4320) are even better ... and I wouldn't be surprised if some scientific specialty formats are higher still.


  2. vob! or maybe hd dvd and blueray

    avi is good too depending on the video and size
