  1. Neither is "better", they simply have different pros and cons.  Rather than worrying about DLP vs LCD you should make sure you buy a home theatre (rather than a business) projector.

In general DLP will give you a better image for less money, but often have less flexible optics (smaller zoom lens range, no lens shift), and MAY be prone to causing susceptible viewers to experience the "rainbow effect" (although this is largely a thing of the past). In general, LCD projectors have more visible pixel structure, while DLP has better blacks.  See the 1st link for further info on choosing between the two technologies, and the 2nd link for advice on what really matters when choosing a projector.  Both these sites also have extensive reviews.

  2. Front projection DLP is superior because of the high native contrast (without resorting to lense or brightness enhancements found in LCD units) according to the December 2006 issue of Consumer Reports.  And the best deal is a "used" Infocus SP4805 which is offered for $500 at:

    Good luck!

  3. they both have many pros and cons but i stick with dlp because it isnt affected by color fading c**p that causes lcd projectors colors to become off further down the road, and its not something that can be corrected, at least not cheaply
