My stepson is not able to attend public school. He is bright, but is picked on so by his peers, he is failing. He is in 8th grade and would like to work online to school himself. His father and I do not have time to teach him lessons. Is there a program that he can school hisself with minimal involvement from us? Not that we wont be checking on things. And cost is a factor too.

  1. Check with www.k12.com and see if they have a virtual academy in your state.

  2. Which state do you live in?  Some have free virtual charters (still public school) and some have free online private schools.  If you can let us know what state you live in, we can point you in the right direction.

  3. Here is K12's list of states with virtual schools/academies.  Not all go through high school, though.

Their high school program is teacher-led, not parent led, whether you do a virtual school or just purchase the curriculum yourself.

Here are some other online high schools.  Most of them, like K12, start around $350/course/semester (0.5 credits).
