Was it Mothercare ? They seemed to be popular in the 70s, how comes they sold in the normal and super absorbency thickness (almost double price), what was the key purpose ?

  1. Terry nappies have been used forever, but I think Mothercare took off in the 70`s for mostly selling nappies and accessories.

Are you seriously asking for the key purpose of a nappy?  I give you my son for a day without a nappy, and you`ll soon find out.

  2. Pampers.

  3. Terry napkins have been on sale since the 20s.

  4. Terry nappies have been around longer than just the 70's.

The thicker they are the greater the absorbency. I used cotton nappies on all my children, there is nothing nicer than seeing a line of white nappies drying!

Although I am glad I had a tumble drier!

  5. Terry nappies have been sold here since the 19th century!!

Harringtons were the most famous makers for many years.

  6. i douno but wat a odd Q lol

  7. I was using terry napkins, together with a muslin napkin for skin protection, before Mothercare was a twinkle in its father's eye!  Certainly way before the 70's.

The normal absorbency was for newborns, and super absorbency for larger babies.

We reckoned on having girls out of napkins when they were 18 months old during the day, boys usually took till 24 months to be potty trained.

Still used a napkin at night for girls till they were about 24-30 months, but I always "lifted" a baby when we went to bed to pot and change napkin so that it wasn't lying in something wet right through the night.

I'm sure my mother spoke of using terry napkins on me and I'm in my 70's.

    P.S.  They cost 1 shilling each (that's 5 pence!) and I bought 1 a week.
