    It is Spencers who brought the Departmental store concept to India, as early as 1863. Their first shop was opened at Madras ( now Chennai ) then the second one opened at Bangalore, serving mainly the British Cantonment Community.

    Presently the ownership of Spencers is with R.P. Goenka Group ( RPG ).
