Question:

Which way should I face my subs?

I have two 10 inch subs in a sealed boxes. I want to face the subs towards each other in the trunk one on each side so that I can pull my seats down and you can see the subs with neon rings. I read that the best way to place the subs is facing the back. I was thinking about facing them forwards towards the seats but the seat drowns the bass unless I have my seats down.

  1. If you want to have the subwoofers facing each other in the trunk, then you should probably get custom fit boxes so each has their own space and you can safely put the seats down without hitting the boxes. If you face the subs towards the seats, then move the subwoofers back to where the trunk opening is, and they will sound better. I recommend pushing the subs up against the seats and facing them backwards, it will sound very good. If you want to just play around with them, hop in the car after repositioning the boxes and go for a ride. After all, it's what you like, not everybody else that matters.

  2. Yes the best way to face them is towards the back because the back of the sub box is where most of the bass reverberates from, but angling them towards the back but not sideways is just as good if your putting the seat down all the time. its a mater of a few decibels and a little sound quality

if their mostly for show with the seats down and the trunk glowing what you can do is face them in to the car and put a strong wall behind the sub boxes that way more bass will reverberate back into the cab of the car

  3. face them toward your buttcheex

  4. i would face backwards becuz you get more air moving which - more (((bass)))

  5. Facing them toward eachother usually isn't a good idea.  The speakers will cancel eachother out a bit at certain frequencies.  This is when the sound waves from one crash into the sound waves from the other and they "cancel" eachother out.

Depending on the car facing them toward the back might be a good idea.  Try that, also try facing facing them up, and one facing toward each corner of the trunk.

Depending on what size the car is facing them forward will either be really loud, or if the sine wave doesn't match up well it will be really quiet.

If you face them toward the back try a couple different distances.  Usually 6" to 12" works well.  It causes an effect called "loading" where the sound wave from the speaker bounces off the wall in the trunk and helps keep the suspension loaded.  Similar to how the inside of the box is working on the back of the speaker.  This usually helps in base response and makes the speaker sound better as well.

It's a good idea to dynamat any surface that the speaker will be reflecting against too.
