    A rapid fall in air pressure generally indicates the approach of a storm. Low pressure indicates rising air. As air rises, it cools and begins to rotate in a counterclockwise direction in the Northern Hemisphere. When the air temperature drops to the dewpoint temperature, clouds can form. Large rotating low pressure systems are called cyclones. Tropical cyclones with wind velocities in access of 74 mph are called hurricanes.
