Wow, how confusing. I am new at all this. I want to have a website that is up all the time and I can take donations on it. That's it. There are so many options, and so many negative reviews of every company. Which one should I use?

  1. i found this website very usefull

    http://www.web-host-finder.net

it has compared top 10 web hosting companies in a chart and will show the most reliable and affordable web hosting company

it has reviews for each web hosting company that will really help you to find the best web hosting provider company

and there are lots of articles about web hosting and internet.

  2. If you are serious about websites either for personal or your business, don't go to free web hosting as they are usually not reliable and you may end up losing all your hard work. Free web hosts usually put advertisements on your websites and it could be annoying.

If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months' time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

    Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukend...

They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 1500000 MB (1500 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.

Visit the site to check details.

  3. You won't find many people unhappy with IX and if you pay in advance they are $5 a month

    http://webhosting.moneysavecenter.com/IX...

They'll give you up to $150 ppc free advertising and free domains.

I join in with the ones unhappy about Bluehost, but there are many more bad ones which I won't mention.

  4. Actually I'm using host gator and they exceed my expectation, they are very affordable and I like their support. The domains can be unlimited and the web space is so huge. Check this entry for more info http://alexanderallard.com/product/recom...

  5. I recommend you have a look at http:\\www.where2upload.com

they have a very nice guide for beginners in websites and webhosting. Also, there's a nice comparison between webhosting packages that will make your choice easier

  6. bluehost webhosting is the best one

  7. Big web hosting companies have hundreds of thousands of users so of course there will be at least hundreds of negative reviews for each of them.

Well, it depends on how much you want to spend.

    1. For up to $5 I recommend:

http://www.hosttell.com/one They are one of the leading European web hosting companies, currently hosting over 500 000 websites. They have plans starting from $1.45/month. Every plan includes Photo Gallery, WebEditor (so you can build a website without knowledge of HTML), Google Adwords coupon (so you can advertise your website on google for free) and a lot more. Check them out.

    2. For $5-$10 I recommend Dreamhost http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html

Their standard price is $119.40/year ($9.95/month if you pay yearly) but they currently have a promotion. You can use the promo code PLUS at sign up page and get the $50 discount + 2 Free domain names. This way you get them for $69.40/year ($5.78/month). You can use their huge Disk Space and host unlimited number of subdomains and domains on a single plan.

    Disk space: 500 GB

    Bandwidth: 5000 GB

    2 Free domain names

    Price: $5.78/month ($69.40/year)

    3. If you're willing to pay $20+/monthly for hosting I recommend:

    http://www.mediatemple.com

    http://www.slicehost.com

  8. I would recommend that if you are starting out you start off with a FREE website so you can get your feet wet and see what you really need before you fork out the cash. Remember, there are no money back guarantees with most web hosts, so if you pick the wrong one, you threw away that money. Try http://www.myownfreeweb.com/ where you can get 250MB disk space, 6GB bandwidth, and Webmail, POP, email, 29 preinstalled scripts, and more all for FREE. If you out grow the free level you can always pay a few dollars more ($2.99) to get a lot more space and bandwidth.

  9. You should consider several points like

    1. Disk Space you require

    2. Bandwidth limit

    3. Support

    4. Ease of access (FTP, C-Panel etc.)

    5. Uptime etc.

I think here's exactly what you require in real detail http://tutorialindia.com/articles/web/ho...

    Best of Luck!

  10. Theer R milyuns av free hosts yu kan tri for 6-12 months & then upgrade intu paed vershun.

I like Geocities (part av Yahoo).

  11. I was in the same boat as you a little while ago. Every company I checked seemed to have a lot of bad reviews, and a lot of good reviews.

I finally settled on Hostmonster. Literally like 95% of the reviews I read said they are really good. And no kidding, they were right. The price is a little more than some of the cheaper ones, but they are very reliable. The customer service is great too. You get a free domain name and a ton of great features (unlimited storage and monthly transfer, for example).

  12. I've been in web design/development for about 8 years now.  I've always used Omnis ( http://www.omnis.com ) for hosting and never had a problem.

They use Unix-based servers which are more secure (due to most viruses created are for Windows-based servers).  Also, they have many useful tools in the control panel that you should check out.  If you are taking donations, I suggest looking into PayPal ( http://www.paypal.com ) which would probably be the quickest (and most secure) route.

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers
