Can someone explain what situations I need to use 'Daylight','Fluorescent' and so on?

  1. HI Zack,

    The WB - white balance - settings are displayed by little icons on all the cameras I have seen/used.   Daylight is indicated by a tiny "sun".   Fluorescent by a tiny fluorescent tube.  Cloudy by a cloud icon.  Indoor shooting with normal light bulbs by a bulb icon and so on.    It is pretty self explanatory... when you are outside on a sunny day...  set to the Sun icon.   If indoors needing flash.... set to the broken arrow icon.   You really need to pay close attention to the WB, as your pictures will be ruined without proper white balance settings along with the other settings you are using.   Hope that helps.

  2. You probably want it to match the lighting during the photo shoot.  If you are taking a picture outside in daylight then use daylight.  If you are taking a picture indoors with fluorescent lighting then use fluorescent.  You can always change it later in photoshop.
