  1. Who knows ? This battle could go on indefinitely. HD DVD and Blu-ray are not being positioned as replacements to DVD .They are still only an option.

  2. I hope the Blu-Ray because the capacity to continually improve it is much higher than on the HD.  The HD movies are cheaper (by about $5) but they do not have as much room for the extras either.  Personaly I like the Blu-Ray (I have a Blu-Ray player so maybe my view is a bit one sided) however if you read up on the statistics right now Blu-Ray is wining the battle.  It will depend on if people are buying for the price or for the quality to figgure out the outcome of this one.  Good luck and Happy Holidays!

  3. Well bluray definatly has more of the movie production contracts. And i think it will probably win.

but to tell you the truth i am kinda indifferent to the whole thing.  i remember having to explain it all to customers at work (best buy)

  4. The p**n industry will determine the winner.  What they chose will kill the other.  p**n DVD sales Crush all other DVD sales by a mile.

Some fodder for the fight- BluRay does have more capacity but is more expensive.  Also BluRay requires a dedicated production line to produce them.  Where as HDDVD's can be produced on the current production lines DVD's are made on, no special equipment.

  5. The more I think about it, the more I think this is NOT like the VHS/Beta wars.

I already have a drive in my new PC that plays both disks.

I already have a player in my theater that plays both disks. (LG BH-100)

This new war reminds me more of the CD-R vs CD+R  and DVD-R vs DVD+R choices. No one thinks twice about it any more because all drives play both dash and plus versions.

The primary difference is that major motion picture studios are going to pick one or the other and place their content there for sale. It's going to matter to them, and it's going to matter to Sony/Samsung and Microsoft/Toshiba, but the rest of us shouldn't have to concern ourselves.

Who is currently winning? Bluray with twice the storage capability. Also, Bluray has 70% of the content currently available to HDDVD's 30%.

If you're looking to buy something, get the LG. That way you can choose between 100% of available content.
