Question:

Which wire is positive/negative?

I just bought a package of speaker wire, and it has two wires in clear insulation. One wire is a copper color and the other is silver colored. It says on the box that the positive is indicated by a stripe on the insulation, but there isn't a stripe and they are both clear.

  1. Use the silver wire on the negative and the copper on the positive.

If you have other wire in the future that is not silver and copper. Look for a marking on the sheath of the wire. Use this marked strand as the negative.

You can do it any way you like really. You just have to stick with the same theme throughout.

Do not connect the silver to the negative one time and then to the positive the next time. Do it the same all the time.

I always connect the silver wire or the marked wire to Negative.

  2. Doesn't matter as long as you keep it consistent through the whole project. Wire is wire, as long as say silver is always negative you won't have any issues.

  3. the copper color is ( + ) and the silver is ( - )..this is standard..u may usually find tht wire comes in two color( black or red ) but copper and silver wire normally used on high ampere(current) devices bcause this wire give low resistance..so tht the wire will never get hot or burn if high current flowing in it

  4. In your case it is upto you. Make the silver one the negative and the copper one the positive. As long as they are correctly connected it will not make any difference. If you need any technical questions answered directly and fast for free just add me to your myspace techguru1

  5. The copper wire is usually positive and the other is negative.  It doesn't matter too much as long as you can distinguish between the two when you hook them up.  Make sure that the positive from the receiver goes to the positive on the speaker and vice-versa.
