Which wireless router best suits me

I want to get wireless internet in my room, I have a dsl cable modem on my desktop computer, and I also have a macbook. I use my computers often, but I don't require huge networking, the distance isn't huge either, 20 ft should do it. i want the internet to be fast though, I don't know if the router effects that. I am sort of new to routers and I am not completely sure how they function.

Also, I have an xbox 360 in the same room and ideally I would like to be able to use this for xbox live, it doesn't have to be super fast but I hate lag.

So what is the cheapest and most reliable modem I could get for this situation, thank you in advance.

  1. truthfully, if all you need is 20 feet or so and you are using DSL. you could just go with a very simple netgear wireless g router. I'll put a link below this for you.

Also, I would not pay the price on there website. Trust me, you can find that same model elsewhere for around $40. If you are an ebayer, go there. If not, just try google shopping. Hope this helps.

  2. I would go with a linksys (owned by Cisco). They make good routers, and there Customer Service and Tech people are really helpful.

  3. I would get a Buffalo one. Then open the right ports and close some. Go to the second link below. If you do the port thing right you shouldn't see much of a lag on your xbox.
