Which would a hominid species benefit the most generalists r specialists with regard to their diet an habitat?

  1. It would have to be generalists.

    A specialist is geared towards one type of food - and if that food-source dried up (change in migration paths, crop blight), they would be starving.

    A generalist eats a bit of this and a bit of that - so when the wheat got ergot fungus, they could go and eat beans and potatoes.

    No sweat!


  2. not every emerging hominid would have been generalist in their diets, however natural selection weeded out the specialists. Therefore generalist tendencies have been the most beneficial. Hints of generalization in our diets can be found in our teeth which are highly un-specialized.
