im 14 and i've been playing guitar for two years, but i just started being serious with it 5 months ago. and now im looking up some guitars at guitarcenter.com and im wondering whether to buy the les paul or g-400... i like playing covers of ac/dc, guns and roses, zeppelin, and a few songs from this decade, but id prefer rock n roll from the 80's.

ive got the money, all i need is to choose. g-400 or les paul. if les paul, which model? lp 100, standard plain or plus top, studio, etc. if g-400, g-400 with emg pick ups, g-400 standard, g-310, sg special?

  1. I won't say that SG's are better than Les Pauls and vice versa.  It depends largely on what you prefer (weight, tone, etc).  Based on liking GnR and Zeppelin, I'd think you'd be better off with a Les Paul.

For the Les Pauls, check out the Standard Plain and Plus Tops.  They are the same guitar, but the Plus Tops have a nice flame pattern in the wood; they look better, but sound the same and cost more.

For SG's, check out any of the G-400 models.  If you played mostly metal, I'd suggest the one with EMG pickups.  A G-400 with normal humbuckers would be better for a variety of music styles.

Don't bother with the cheaper models if you can afford one of the guitars I mentioned above.
