Which would be cheaper? Used laptop, or new?

Ok, my dad says he's going to buy me a laptop, but both my parents don't have good credit, and we'll end up paying too much for a new laptop. So, my dad was thinking about buying a nice, not scratched, new laptop from a flea market by my house and take it to get a whole new hard drive and memory. We will most likely take it to Fry's electronics (if you've heard of it). Anyway, I was wondering if it would come out cheaper to buy one from the flea market and buy a new hard drive and memory, or just having my parent's try to pass to get a laptop from an electronics store. Plz give detail or tips on your answer, thanx!

  1. get a used one thats not more than one year old otherwise everything will be out of date and video card etc will be old and will not work good on games, if you said the bidget i would of reccomended some laptop,

theres a toshiba one with 250gb hard drive and 3gb ram for 400 pounds

  2. Or you could get a job and pitch in, you can get pretty decent ones from ebay, best buy, etc for under 500 bucks. I got my Dell off ebay for 300.  The thing about the flea markets (are you in the SW? me too, fry's and flea markets, heh) is alot of times they are either a) stolen b) gutted and replaced w/ worthless parts or c) hunks of c**p w/ a fake logo welded to them. Be careful buying electronics there. Hopefully you know someone who knows a bit about the hardware.

  3. I would recommend a used one from a reputable store, not a flea market. If something goes wrong, I doubt they'll take it back and the memory and add-ons you buy there are often faulty.

Also, try checking the big box-chains for "open box" (used) deals :)

  4. Def a new computer cause by the time u spend money on fixing it up you could have bought a new one.You wouldn't know what kind of problems a computer from the flea market would have.(Virsus, old programs) Check out walmart cause they usually have the best prices.I just got a computer from there. They can apply for a walmart credit card and pay a little along.Even if they're not approved for the whole amount of the laptop it would help out.

  5. if u get and old one a used 1 it is c**p it will braek easily i have experience that kind of c**p so buy a new one it will last longer i have a laptop i bougth it on 2001 and it still works but get ur laptop with warranty

  6. i think you should get  the laptop from a electronics store, because if you get a laptop from the flee market  there might be problems with  the laptop. a few days ago i got a laptop from the flee market. when i started to turn on my laptop,it didn't turn on i took it to a store to fix it but it still didn't turn on. so i got a new laptop from the store and it works good.

  7. Definitely a new computer, it will be cheaper, and higher quality, also it is important to have a good processor which you will mainly get in the new laptops. Memory is expensive to buy normally, but will always be cheaper when configuring a new computer. Dell have some good deals on their inpiron 1525 laptops at the moment, and are offering free colour and memory upgrades, you also have warranty from dell, something you wouldnt have from a fle market.

  8. used but not to used. make sure its in good condition when you buy it then you can buy new hardware

  9. for for hard drive and ram yarr..
