I'm trying to trade-in my TaylorMade R7 Draw Iron Sets (Steel) for Callaway BB 04 Graphite (3 to PW) for $204 and Ping G5 or G2 Graphite (3 to PW) for $500 and $300. First I hate my R7 Draw, ever since I bought it mesh up my game, I used to have the TM Rac OS and I played better on that. I went to the golf shop and tried both the Callaway and Ping and hitting extra 15 yards more than my R7 Draw. I know both Callaway and Ping are nice brand and also the feel when I'm hitting it. So which one.

  1. Graphite does not automatically improve your game.  It is lighter than steel.  You would need a PGA Professional to make that determination.

Ping clubs are made in America; Callaway's product is made in Asia.

  2. Of course it is all up to you as to which set you are more comfortable and confident with. That is the key.

Personally, I like the Pings as I have tried them several times and am myself debating on getting a set.

  3. a lot of it is how it feels to you, but if they feel the same I'd go with the callaway, Ping is still good, but they just aren't the same as what they used to be and callaway is almost always reliable.

  4. Big Bertha. I like the name and they seem a whole lot better. You must be loaded to afford one of those. I'm on young gun

  5. It is up to you which clubs perform better for you (distance and accuracy), I would lean toward Callaway, but that is just me.  As far as graphite shafts they are lighter than steel, so the theory is that the same amount of effort from you will result in greater clubhead speed and thus more distance.  But with irons your biggest concern should be accuracy not distance, you want to be next to the flag, and who cares if you had to hit a 6 or a 7 iron to get there?

  6. I would choose neither, I would choose Titleist.

  7. Whatever is cheaper if you like them equally.  They are equal in quality.  I don't think graphite is good if your are still learning to golf well.  They are more forgiving but encourage bad habits to develop because you will think you are hitting good shots even though you may not be doing everything correct.

  8. Ping
