  1. Apologies accepted ;o)

I am a Aussie Rules fan through & through and have never had any interest in Rugby. Personal choice but I think to play AFL you need to be more athletic and skilled so it makes it more fun to watch for me.

  2. They are different games and I like both. Assie Rules is ahead

  3. im an Aussie rules fan personally

it has great skills(kicking, arial marks, and fast handballs)

the game is fast paced but still hard physically(averages more injuries than rugby each season)

the game goes longer 120mins (so there is more time to drink beer at the game)rugby game time 80mins

i am biased as im from a traditional AFL state (victoria)and you'll probably find people answering from Q.L.D or N.S.W will generally say rugby saying that i enjoy the rugby also-i just prefer Aussie rules.

  4. I like both codes..rugby is very physical lots of biffo's, clarret juice..aussie rules endurance, fitness, exciting..

  5. Football in Australia isn't the same as in America.

You have one code which covers the whole nation. We have traditionally had two codes (three if you include Rugby Union - further explanation needed!).

The two northern states are Rugby League through and through (two of the three largest states in Aust), AFL is fanatically followed in the other four.

To answer your question Aussie Rules is far more exciting and has spread into the other two states in the past decade because of how exciting it is - rugby league has not really spread at all.

Having said this all my league mates need at least a couple of years of watching AFL to make sense of it. Having grown up with AFL the rules make perfect sense to me but takes a couple of seasons for them to understand it.

I am a league fan as well but trust me - when they come to grips with it, they love it. AFL is very exciting to watch and gets better and better the more you know.

It is very physical to play and you need to be very fit, sports studies show AFL players are the fittest athletes in Australia. It is great to play if you have awareness of what is going on around you, AFL is a 360 degree game unlike American Football or Rugby which is 180 degree. You can be hit from any angle in AFL as there is no off-side.

AFL is exciting like no other sport in AUstralia but I know from experience you need to give it a few years in order to understand it. If you are unsure of what team to follow go for the Sydney Swans and look for Barry Hall - Americans would love him.

ps If you want an idea of the toughest Rugby player in Australia google Willie Mason - he tried out for the New York Jets early this year. Not sure how he went but I'll give you the inside tip, he would be awesome in your game - fast, big, tough, agile and loves trash-talkin'.
