Sorry, Rich, but are you are wrong. Boston had the first subway system in America. It opened in 1897. As for which country had it first, I'm not too sure, but it was probably the United States.

I may be wrong, but I believe it was in New York City, New York, USA  and the construction was completed in 1904.
