True, The Russians were extremely under equipped and there equipment was outdated. The Generals were poorly trained compared to their major adversary Germany. Plus, it is very hard to concentrate on a war when you are not well fed, you worry about you family knowing how bad conditions are in Russia and if they even have food.

There was a bad shortage of food in Russia during world war 1. The revolution was under way. Innocent people were getting killed for there opposition to the Czar and his rule. He lived a life of luxury and ate very well and was totally out of touch with the needs of his people. Then he took personnel charge of the military and went to take over at the front. With no experience in military matters, the Russian army suffered massive casualties. While at home more controversy over word getting back to not only the Czar but the troops about a mad monk named Rasputin. Who was said to have control over the Czarina and through her ruled. To the average Russian troopers who were taken not asked to be in the Russian army he was a peasant as well. So it is hard to keep you mind on the war when all these problems are getting back to you from home and news that the Czar must go. The French has a stable government people got to eat every day. So it was a lot different. The French fought to keep their way of like. While a Russian solider new after the war he would go home and be nothing but a slave, so why was he busting his butt for a government who did not even care if the people were starving. With you mind filled with all this, kind of hard to keep you mind focused on the war.

True. The French and their allies successfully defended Paris and forced the Germans to commit to four years of stalemate and bloody trench warfare. On the other hand the Russians fared poorly and quit the war in 1917, and descended into chaos and civil war.

I suppose you could say the opposite about World War II. The Soviet Union bore the brunt of the n**i onslaught, quickly recovered, and became an unstoppable military force that steamrolled the German army all the way back to Berlin. France surrendered after a three weak beatdown by the n***s. Although, the French Resistance and Free French forces kept fighting. It was the Third Republic that was weak.
