While Heathrow airport is a big and busy place it has not been organized well at all?

nothing is in order at Heathrow. Its all over the place.

why is that?

  1. Try visiting JFK, a model of chaos.


  2. It was a planning mistake from the 1960s... what started as a small airport has been constantly added to, rather than making the decision to build a new and bigger airport (like in lots of Asian countries) from scratch.

    As the number of passengers has increased the existing infrastructure has been unable to cope, so they built new terminals to cope with the extra planes.

    It continues to this day with terminal five being opened just a few months back, and even that's not big enough to handle all the flights in and out of Heathrow these day.

  3. I don't know, I've been thru there many a time and never had a problem. The only hold up was at the security check point, it dragged something terrible, but other than that it's ok.

  5. yes it's big and busy, and yes there's an assortment of buildings that have evolved over the last 60 years or so ... but I've always found it quite well organised
