Question:

While I Was Driving Yesterday I Honked the Horn Obnoxiously?

A girl was trying to cross the street in 4-lane traffic. It was the busiest time of the day and she was walking as slow as she could. I saw her from a couple of cars back and when I started watching her she was moving at a faster pace, but as soon as she was in front of me she slowed down and just took her time like there wasn't 45 -50 mph moving cars going by. I got so pissed that I honked the horn several times to show my aggression. It really pissed me off that people do not have consideration for traffic. It's almost as if they WANT to get hit. The pedestrian usually has the right of way but when you know you've got on-coming traffic at 45 to 50 mph wouldn't you speed it up a bit and run across the road, rather than slow down? My question is, was it wrong for me to beep the horn at her?

  1. No matter whats you do, people just dont listen. Just drive your way and just follow speed law and respect pedestrian. Honk unless its really dangerous coming.

  2. In California, YOU could have gotten a ticket.  The horn is for emergency warning, only, NOT to show your anger.

It MIGHT be possible that she could have gotten a ticket for obstructing traffice, but, somehow, I doubt that you have the kind of judgement to make the determination on just how slow a walking pace is TOO slow.  It is YOUR judgement that she should be running across the road.  What if she was not, physically capable of running?  Should someone be required to run, simply because she is ABLE to?

In any case, it is NOT your function to "train" pedestrians, with your horn, to walk faster.  Drivers are not the only ones that practice "road rage."  This time it was some random girl.  The next time it may be a crazy, armed, nut job.

  3. Next time, throw something at her too.
