While I am in Honduras how would I make phone calls to the United States?

Your best option is to call from an internet cafe. It's so cheap and the quality is really good. My in-laws call us from an internet cafe.

If that's not an option where you are going, Hondutel (the government operated phone company) recently lowered the rates to call the US so it's at least affordable now. It was rediculously high before now. In the small towns, you can go to the local Hondutel office and they will have little phone booths you can make calls from.

In addition to the internet cafes where you can rent a phone by the minute as well as use a computer,  Hondutel, the national telephone company has offices in most towns.  You can rent a phone there as well.  There are getting to be more and more credit card operated public phones around the country.  To make an actual call the internation access code for Honduras is 00.  So once you have your outside line dial 001, plus the US area code, plus the local number.

There are lots of internet cafes either in San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba, Tegus, Tela, even in some pueblos....you can call internationally using a PC.
