  1. Hi,

I know this may sound condescending, however if you are asking this question you may not be on a suitable board for your level.

Popping up on a board will be a natural movement if you are riding a short board. I would make sure you are comfortable with standing on a larger beginner board before hitting up a short board. Learn to stand in the broken wave (whitewash)and then proceed to a shortboard.

Once on the shortboard, you will 'pop' up with your hands naturally being placed just in front of your chest. You wont need to touch the rails unless adjusting your position on the board.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Put your hands on the deck. If you put your hands on the rails if your hands slip you will fall.

  6. do the rails so then you will have more balance when you pop up, if you put your hands too close to eachother, you will probably lose your balance.

  7. rails.
