sometimes my horse does that but i think hes just playing with it! but who knows... sometimes horses do strange things lol

the bit may be too wide for hlm. bits, just like saddles come in several sizes, so consider some adjustments.

It could just be boredom; like the way sometimes people chew their fingernails when they're bored. I'd still have the bit checked to make sure that it fits his mouth right. It may also be the wrong type of bit; I'd say talk to your riding instructor or other experienced horseperson about that.
