  1. YES

  2. Yes,   back when photo's were new, scientist used what was considered a high speed camera and took pictures of a horse that is running and all 4 hooves were off the ground. That may of been in the early 1900's.

I know when I ride my horse, it seems like she has all 4 off the ground.

  3. No, not unless they are jumping.

  4. Yes, most definitely. This was proved at the farm at Stanford University. A series of cameras and trip wires were used.

  5. Yes!!! Acutally I am looking at a picture of Barbaro winning the Derby right now. All four of his feet are clearly off the ground.

  6. yes, there are moments of suspention

  7. yes.  Here is a picture showing all the steps of a horse's gallop.  There is a moment of suspended motion when all the legs are off the ground at once: http://www.allposters.com/gallery.asp?st...

There is also a moment of suspended motion in the canter (if you're doing a real english canter, not a western lope)... the canter is the same as the gallop except that the 2nd and 3rd legs hit the ground at the same time, so the stride is a little more collected than the gallop stride.

  8. i think while they are galloping yea but i may not be right...

  9. Yes, it is a fact.

The trot is a two beat diagonal gait of the horse where the diagonal pairs of legs move forward at the same time. There is a moment of suspension between each beat.

Eadweard Muybridge was the first to prove, by photography, in 1872, that there is a "moment of suspension" or "unsupported transit" during the trot gait.

  10. yes, but only on every fourth step
