While taking a test on virtual school, are you allowed to open tabs?

The rules I have been given say that I cannot use more that one browser, but does that mean that I can open new tabs within the browser?

I always do. and have never been called on it so I guess they can't tell. I would try to open another window just so don't get forget and go off the exam page.

lol i do it all the time, but my school has an open book policy.  We also need to know what school you attend to get the right answer. However i wouldn't rely on the answers you get here. Call your school or email to find out for sure.
