Contributing to your community on a regular basis.

Volunteer work, including volunteering for a political candidate - one person can go out and change their community by becoming an active part of it.

Economic boycott - if you don't care for the politics of a certain company (KFC's treatment of chickens, for example), do not support them by spending your money on their product.

Running for / participating in your city council or school board

Blogging / journalism - I'd say this might be the most important, but only because it carries with it the ability to reach and affect the political habits of many people in a short time.

Voting is the most effective way besides the almight dollar! As a capitalist society we work that way - money = power and influence in many reagions of the country.

The people would have more of their own power harnessed if the state of the electoral college was changed.

How about running for office? It doesn't have to be the top job, nor do the local offices require much more than going down to the registrar and placing your name on the ballot.

Who knows? You might win!
